I make my hand-crafted furniture in a small
one-person shop tucked away in the mountains
of Central PA. I enjoy making contemporary
pieces as well as period reproductions and
use traditional elements such as hand-cut
dovetails, mortise and tenon joinery, inlay
and veneering. I also like to incorporate
carved elements whenever the design allows.

The woods I enjoy working with most are
Cherry, Walnut, figured Maple, and Honduras
Mahogany although I have worked with most of
the common domestic woods and a variety of
exotic woods. The wood I use is carefully
selected for matching color, figure and, if
possible, is all taken from the same tree. I
use full dimension lumber as much as
possible in my pieces. For example, bedposts
are made from 3-inch thick stock and
headboards are made from 16” to 20” wide
boards. To embellish a piece I will use
accent woods such as Ebony, Rosewoods,
Holly, Purple Heart, and Lacewood.
I have a deep appreciation of wood because of its beauty and
timeless participation in our world as tool,
shelter, fuel, and, ultimately, art. Wood is
a living medium that appeals to my love of
nature and function. It
is my goal to uncover this innate beauty by
presenting it in new and surprising forms. |
